MANDA’s Top Recommended Foods for Sun Protection

Food for your skin

In a previous blog Let Food Be Thy Medicine, we discussed the importance of nourishing our bodies from the inside out. We all know that we are what we eat, especially when it comes to our skin!  While the ingredients in MANDA organic sun paste provide skin health on the outside, the path to overall health and wellness begins with what we put into our bodies. Believe it or not, we can improve our body’s protection from the sun by eating foods that have natural defenses against those harmful rays!

Here’ s how it works:

Antioxidants, antioxidants, antioxidants!

When our skin is exposed to UVA/UVB rays, an influx of free radicals enters our skin. We can create a barrier from the disturbance of free radicals by giving our skin what it needs: antioxidants.

Antioxidants work to counteract free radicals caused by sun exposure. So when we eat certain foods that work to promote our skin’s production of antioxidants, we can keep our skin protected.

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in lycopene and beta-carotene, which give tomatoes their red pigment and help the skin defend against UVA/UVB rays.

Leafy Greens

Leafy greens are loaded with antioxidants (flavonoids and polyphenols), essential omega-3’s, vitamins and minerals.

Pomegranates

Pomegranates are high in lycopene and loaded with antioxidants

The Orange Trifecta

Carrots, Oranges, and Sweet potatoes. Basically, if it’s naturally orange, eat it! These foods are high in beta-carotene.

Green Tea

Green tea contains polyphenols that help neutralize free radicals.

Salmon

Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help with the elimination of free radicals.

The healthier your skin, the better it can defend itself from harmful environmental elements, but you still need to protect your skin from the outside… so don’t forget your MANDA sun paste!
